The castle dates from the thirteenth century. The current castle is eighteenth century and was built on the foundations of its medieval predecessor. Over the centuries, the castle has suffered a lot from mining damage. The castle farm dates from 1690. Baron Van Strijthagen was one of the residents, as was Baron De Rose de Lommissen
