From Kleit (Maldegem) a visit to Bruges

The imposing neo-Gothic Ryckevelde Castle was built in 1929. The Ryckevelde domain is 120 hectares in size. Part of the area is a military domain and the forests are partly a protected nature reserve. You will find forests, heath remnants and an inner dune or inland dune: the White Sand or the Schobbejaks Hoogte. There is also a Heemtuin, a deciduous forest with regional species. On the old emergency landing strip is the oldest tree in the region, which bears the name'Dikke Bertha\\\'. The robust-looking Male is a castle from the 12th century, although a motte-and-bailey castle has already stood on this site in the 9th century as a defense against the Vikings. Over the centuries, the castle has been destroyed, rebuilt and changed owners several times. From 1954, the Sint-Trudo Abbey settled in the castle. The castle tower of today dates from the 16th century and one of the annexed wings from the 17th century. You continue to picturesque Bruges. The historic city center of Bruges is included as a medieval city on the UNESCO World Heritage List. The inner city is beautifully preserved, with many neo-Gothic buildings from the 19th century. It really is a city to come home to and take the time to look around. For shopping enthusiasts there are many markets and shops and the burgundians can go to the numerous restaurants and cozy terraces. All this against the backdrop of a beautiful cityscape full of picturesque streets, historic buildings and romantic canals. A cycling destination par excellence!
