Description
This route takes you through the region between Boxtel, Best and Oirschot. You drive through De Kampina and through the Dommeldal. Along the way you will pass some historical sights.
Kampina
First you drive to the village of Lennisheuvel, where you will see some Brabant long-gable farms. Further on you pass through De Kampina, a varied nature reserve of forest, heathland and stream valleys. In August the heather begins to bloom, turning the heather into a purple sea. There are regular benches near the fens to enjoy the view and the silence.
Sacred Oak
Just before Spoordonk you pass the Spoordonkse Watermolen from 1868. It is located on the Beerze, a beautiful spot for a photo. In the middle of the forest you will find the Chapel of the Sacred Oak. In 1406, two shepherds are said to have found a statue of Mary in the De Beerze stream and placed it in an oak tree. Slot Den Hulst is a high white-plastered house located at the end of a long driveway.
