Cycling along the Mark and over the Strijbeekse Heide

Your cycling route starts at Natuurkampeerterrein't Beekdal. You cycle along the meandering banks of the Mark (the Dintel) through the Markdal. This river valley south of Breda continues to the border with Belgium. At the beginning of the 21st century, work began to restore the natural course of the Mark. The fish stock in the Mark has improved and the sand martin has returned to the area. The kingfisher is also regularly seen again. Just before Breda you turn off, past the nice Ulvenhout. Soon you will drive into a special nature reserve again. From 1932 onwards, the Strijbeekse Heide was partly planted with coniferous wood and partly transformed into an agricultural area. A number of fens and heath remnants were spared. The fens are now regularly dredged and the heathland is dug up.
