Through the former peat area of North Twente

Around Vriezenveen you will make a beautiful bike ride through the former peat area of northern Twente. You will ride through varied landscapes, on the way you will also visit a museum where you will learn more about the regional development history.

Valley of the Mosbeek Slowly you see the landscape change and the vast Twente Hooilanden make way for the rolling Valley of the Mosbeek. A stone's throw from each other you pass two special water mills from 1725: the Molen van Bels and the Molen van Frans. You imagine yourself back in time here.

Peat Museum Further on you will again enter the authentic farming landscape of the Twente Hooilanden. How wonderfully peaceful it is here! You will pass through Vriezenveen, a village where many inhabitants traded extensively with Saint Petersburg between 1720 and 1917. Peat Museum Het Vriezenveense Veld is a unique small-scale outdoor museum. Here you will learn more about life in the time of peat extraction in North Twente (1850-1950). Finally, you will pass the Engbertsdijksvenen, a unique nature reserve.
