Via Zeddam to Doetinchem

Doetinchem is an important city in the Gelderland Achterhoek, located on the Oude IJssel. The local residents also call the place"Deutekem\\\","Durkum\\\" or"Dörkum\\\". They offered their merchandise on the market. There is not much information about the history of the city, because a lot of documentation was lost during a major city fire in 1527. After the Second World War, Doetinchem grew and the city eventually overtook the surrounding large towns. The old tower mill was built before 1441 and it is probably the oldest windmill in the Netherlands. The building looks a bit bulky, with its thick walls and robust appearance. The mill, which is used by a volunteer miller to grind grain, still has very old floorboards that make the mill very special. Two kilometers further you pass through the village of Braamt and you will see the Braamtse Mill. This mill is also called Koeners Möl. What is special about this mill is that it is one of the two mills in the Netherlands that has Beckers valves and Beckers noses on one of the rods. The ground sailor from 1856 is out of service, but it used to grind grain with one pair of 16er artificial stones. In the hamlet of Dichteren near Doetinchem you can see the Aurora mill, built in 1870. This round stone ground sailor was built when a predecessor, which was located in a different location, could no longer turn properly because the buildings obstructed the wind.
