Castle route Meinweg from Roermond

The first sight you encounter is Castle Freymersen. The medieval round brick tower with two floors has been incorporated into the current country house, dating from 1865. You will then pass the Vlodropper mill from 1875. The turbine in the mill is the only one of its kind. On the same water you will find the Gitstappermolen, a corn mill. The mill regularly runs on a voluntary basis. Castle Hillenraad is a square moated castle that was built in the fourteenth century. The four corner towers dominate the estate and give the elegant building a stately appearance. The complex will be surrounded by a moat and admirers will have to view it from a distance: Hillenraad Castle is not open to the public.
