From Waal to Maas and back again

Wonderful winding through the eastern part of the Land van Maas en Waal. The great rivers have shaped the land here, but humans have also left their mark. You will see numerous old villages and a beautiful castle ruin.

Ruin Batenburg
This route starts at Hotel-Restaurant De Twee Linden in Beneden-Leeuwen. After a cup of coffee on the terrace you set off. You drive along the Waal to Druten, further on you pass through the authentic village of Horssen. At Hill\\\'s you can relax on the cozy terrace on the water. Then you drive to the old Batenburg. The ruin of the same name is impressive: this is one of the oldest castles in Gelderland.

Watch boats
At Appeltern you will pass Stoomgemaal De Tuut: the only one of the 34 steam pumping stations in the Gelderland river area that has been preserved. On the dike you drive past De Gouden Ham, a former meander of the Maas. Now it is a water sports area, from the bike you can enjoy all the boats. You pass the Ronde Molen, a former corn mill from 1740. Further on are more monumental buildings, such as old farms. What a beautiful region!
