Zaltbommel, between Maas and Waal

This route starts at TRIP Zaltbommel, the Tourist Recreational Information Point of the region. You leave for a lovely tour through the polder. A special place you pass along this route is the Delwijnse mill, of which only the hull remains. In 1740, six polders in the Bommelerwaard decided to build six octagonal paddlewheel mills, namely four inner mills and two front mills, the construction of which was put out to tender on 13 and 14 May 1740. The inner mills milled out on the Zaltbommelse weteringen, just like the existing Gamers mill. On 11 July 1740 the foundation stone was laid for the Delwijnse mill. After the foundation of a pumping station, the mill was demolished down to the first binding layer. The unusual octagonal base can still be seen. In Gameren you can see beautiful historic farms on Ridderstraat and Delkant, also note the haystack behind the old farm on Delkant - a picture! Kerkwijk also has beautiful old farms and also a beautiful 12th century church. A journey through time, this bike tour! Along the way you will also discover beautiful imposing buildings such as Landgoed Groenhoven, where you can eat or drink something in the bistro, and Ammersoyen Castle. The latter is an impressive fortress, strategically located between Maas and Waal, in the beautiful river country of the Bommelerwaard. Ammersoyen is one of the best-preserved medieval castles in the country and was built around 1300. Don't forget to enjoy a drink or a snack at the snack bar cafeteria Ons Trefpunt.
