GrandCafé-Boutique Hotel Eemland is your starting point of this route, where you can first enjoy the nice terrace. Between Hilversum and Laren you will find the Zuiderheide, a beautiful open purple heath landscape complete with heathland fens. In the past, the fens were used to wash the cattle, hence the name Laarder Wasmeer. You also pass through a heathland where the forests took hold when the sheep disappeared from the area in 1962. Nowadays cattle graze naturally again. In addition to the shady green forests with beautiful vistas, you also get something with the river Eem. This is fed by a number of streams from the Veluwe and is responsible for most of the drainage of the Gelderse valley.
