Cycling in Limburg along the blueberry fields of Blue Berrie Hill

This route takes you via the Maas and the Limburg landscape past all kinds of blueberry fields, interesting and pleasant sights from the area. Seeing, tasting, smelling and feeling are central during this route.

Geijsteren estate
Landgoed Geijsteren has been owned by the same family for two centuries. Here you cycle through a coniferous and deciduous forest through which the Oostrumse Beek meanders. At this watercourse you can see De Rosmolen, a water mill from 1667. Despite the name, it has never been a real horse mill. The mill house was damaged in 1944 when the bridge over the stream was blown up. Since 2000, the mill house has been able to grind again.

Saint Anna chapel
Just outside Meterik you drive along the Eendracht Makes Macht. This mill was built in 1899 with parts from a South Holland mill that dated from 1798. That is why you see these two years on the beard of the mill. In Ooijen you pass the castle of the same name. In Oirlo, the Sint-Anna chapel from 1788 is located on the Hoofdstraat. 

House ter Horst
Just above Horst you pass through the former estate of the Kasteelse Bossen. On the edge of this is the ruin of Kasteel Ter Horst, also known as Huys ter Horst. This castle was built in the early fourteenth century. During the Eighty Years' War, the castle was partially destroyed by itinerant and plundering soldiers. In 1798 the French put an end to the seigniory rights of the last resident, Frans Clemens von Fürstenberg. After that, the castle fell into disrepair and a large part was demolished around 1828. Only the tithe barn and the nearby farm were preserved. Later, part of the castle ruins were restored, so that you can now take a look into the past.
