Your route starts at Camping De Blekhort. From here you cycle through beautiful nature and many nice villages. From junction 88 you drive into the Earlier Achterbroek, an ancient landscape of meadows, hedgerows and bushes. In the spring you can see wild flowers here. How different is the vast landscape around Vroomshoop and Geerdijk. From the middle of the nineteenth century the raised moor was cultivated here, because the Twente textile industry needed peat as cheap fuel. You drive to the Engbertsdijksvenen, a vast peat area with heathland and fens. In the meantime, all the raised bogs in the Netherlands have virtually disappeared and only a few remnants remain. In the middle of the Engbertsdijksvenen there is still a piece of raised moor about five meters thick, completely in its original condition.
