Description
The Peel region is a quiet rural area on the border of North Brabant and Limburg. Here you will take a varied cycle tour through a beautiful landscape of grasslands, forests and stream valleys.
Helenavaart
Just past Grashoek you drive past some nature reserves that are located on the Helenavaart. It is nice and quiet here, especially because the canal (over which peat was once transported) is no longer in use. In Neerkant in Brabant you cycle past the monumental Sint Vincentiushuis, a former monastery from 1915. A little later you enter the Neerkantse Bossen where you can smell the fresh scent of conifers.
Meijel
Meijel in Limburg has been isolated for many centuries between swamps and the Peel. In the characteristic village you will encounter a number of sights, such as the striking St. Nicholas Church. There was already a church on this site in the twelfth century, the current building, built in layers of bacon, dates from 1955. Between two old lime trees on Kerkstraat you will also see the St. Anne's Chapel from 1768. After your route you can regain your strength at De Peat farm.
