Your route starts at Brasserie't Blaakven. The Weerterbos is one of the few natural forests in this region. You will pass a lookout tower where you can spot red deer at dusk. Near this lookout tower you will pass the monument for the former border church that stood here in the forest from 1648 to 1712. Nederweert, a little further on, was separated from Weert in the fourteenth century. You will find a nice atmosphere around the Sint-Lambertus church. Back in Weert, near junction 73, you will see the only preserved clay pipe oven in Western Europe at the drawbridge. You will cycle over the Biest, named after a river that used to flow here. Two castles were built here, the Aldeborch from the thirteenth century was incorporated into the monastery complex that you can still find here.
