Your route starts at Farm Boterhuys with its delicious farmer's ice cream. You will immediately discover the Broekdijkmolen, dating from 1862. The octagonal wooden polder mill ran wild in 1972 during a storm and burned down. This mill from the Waarderpolder was placed on the masonry substructure of that burned down mill. You cycle around the Kagerplassen, which are surrounded by a network of small reed ditches and canals. There are large and small islands in the water everywhere. At Warmond you cycle to the Huys te Warmont or Huis te Warmond. This castle originally dates from the 12th or 13th century, but the current house is a late Baroque country house with classicist influences. In the summer months you can make the crossing to Zevenhuizen in Kaag by bicycle and foot ferry!

This farm is located in the middle of the centuries-old Boterhuispolders, near Leiden. The organic dairy farm and ice cream factory is a nice picnic and meeting place for anyone who wants a taste of farm life. There is nothing better than polder ice cream. They make ice cream from the milk of their own Blaarkop cows: close to the polder, close to history and wonderfully creamy. With your ice cream in hand you can easily walk to the water's edge. A nice spot to join in all your wanderings between't Joppe and Oude Ade. You will find so much nature close to the city!

The Boterhuismolen in Warmond is a polder mill built in 1744 to replace an earlier hollow post mill from 1634. It owes its name to the polder that it can drain. The mill now drains the Boterhuispolder on a voluntary basis and has the status of a national monument.

The Broekdijkmolen in Warmond is an octagonal wooden polder mill built in 1862, which replaced a burnt-down octagonal mill from 1840. In 1972 the mill went downhill during a storm and could be stopped with difficulty. The following night, however, the mill burned down, probably as a result of overheating. The municipality of Haarlem offered an octagonal mill as a replacement. This could not be kept in its place in the Waarderpolder due to the expansion of an industrial estate. The mill was transferred in its entirety to Warmond and appeared to fit on the masonry substructure. The mill was installed in 1974; the restoration lasted until 1976. Until 1979, the Broekdijk mill was owned by the polder, then by the Oude Veenen water board and now by the Rijnlandse Molenstichting, which also supervised the 1976 reconstruction. The mill now drains the Broek en Simontjes polder on a voluntary basis. The mill is a national monument.

The Huys te Warmont estate is hidden in the green on the outskirts of Warmond. The foundations of this house date from the 12th or the 13th century. The current country house is a lot less old. The old house was destroyed during the Eighty Years' War and then rebuilt. The estate on which the house is located is not large, but it is of great cultural value because of the ancient yew trees and the beautiful country house.
