Doetinchem is the perfect base for beautiful bike rides through the Gelderse Achterhoek. Get to know the history of Doetinchem and cycle through the beautiful nature reserves and forests around this city. You will naturally relax in this rural environment.

Special places in the Achterhoek
The pick-up point for this route is between Doetinchem and Gaanderen. From here you cycle through the varied Koekendaal nature reserve, a typical small-scale Achterhoek landscape, to the village of Zelhem. Just outside Zelhem you will cycle past the first sight on this route: the Wittebrinksemolen from 1889. This flour mill can now be visited by appointment. Then you cycle through the Kruisbergse forests, a forest area with river dunes and fens. The height differences in this area are especially special, but the rivers and stream valleys and the forests that are surrounded by meadows and croplands are also worth a visit. Other places of interest on the route are Keppel Castle, the Laag-Keppel watermill and the Walmolen.

Recreation park & Restaurant De Wrange

Recreation Park & Restaurant De Wrange is the start and end point of this route. You are always welcome here for a cup of coffee, lunch or dinner. You can also stay overnight in one of the bungalets, rental tents or in your own tent. From here you can also follow route 137683 by bike.

Cozy Doetinchem
Be sure to take the time to take a detour through Doetinchem. This city used to be an important trading place for farmers. They offered their merchandise on the market. Furthermore, not much is known about the history of the city, because in 1527 many documents were lost in a large city fire. After the Second World War, Doetinchem grew enormously as a city and so it developed into an important city in the Achterhoek.
