Across the Dommel Valley

This route takes you through the versatile surroundings of Nuenen. First you cycle through the Dommel valley. The river meanders here in a picturesque way through an old cultural landscape of fields, meadows and marsh forests. Further on you come through the Nuenens Broek. This marsh forest was originally a marsh area, in the thirties poplars were planted here. At junction 78 you come past the Roosdonck. This corn mill from 1884 was drawn by Van Gogh no less than seven times. The painter liked to stay in this beautiful area. Just past Gerwen you cycle through the forests of the Papenvoortse Heide. In the countryside you come through a number of interesting villages, such as Mariahout. At De Vresselse Hut you can regain your strength with a snack and a drink.
