Egmond aan Zee was created behind the dunes in 977. A gentleman farmer from Egmond-Binnen built ten houses for poor families. They were allowed to live here for free if they would donate ten percent of their catch to the abbey in Egmond-Binnen. Egmond aan Zee has traditionally been a real fishing village. You can enjoy cycling between the villages and in the North Holland Dune Reserve. The vastness and varied vegetation of the sandy soils provide a wide variety of plant and animal species. Pay a visit to De Hoep visitor centre. A specially landscaped garden shows how the dune landscape was created and where you can see special animals and unique trees and plants. After a cup of coffee at Oesdom coffee & shop you walk back to your starting point.

Our Lady of Distress in Heiloo in North Holland is the largest Marian pilgrimage site in the Netherlands. You will find a special estate where you as a guest can take a walk or participate in the activities in the park. You can discover the entire region from the tea house and shop Het Oesdom. Come and drink coffee or tea (with a biscuit) and order an ice cream, something soft or a bag of chips for the children. Inside it is cozy and outside you can enjoy the park at a table under the trees on the square. You are most welcome!
