Beautiful views over water alternate with the interior of Schouwen-Duiveland. You start the cycle route at the parking lot in Schuddebeurs. Get on your bike and explore this beautiful Zeeland island. The route takes you to beautiful windmills and castles, so that you can sniff out the necessary cultural history during your trip. You cycle towards Brouwershaven along the harbor and past windmill De Haan. A little later you can relax at Beach restaurant Our Seaside in Renesse. With a beautiful view over the beach and the North Sea, you can spoil yourself culinary with fish, meat and regional dishes. When you continue the tour you go to Haamstede Castle. Finally, you can take panoramic photos at the lookout tower of Burgh-Haamstede. The dune on which the tower stands is the highest dune top in the area.

The most famous windmill type in the Netherlands. Windmills were not only used to produce flour from cereals, but also for draining polder areas. Natural energy. The most famous windmills can be found in Kinderdijk, which have truly been set up as a polder model. A must see!

Slot Haamstede

Opposite the church, in the middle of the village of Haamstede, is Slot Haamstede. The oldest part of the current castle dates from the 13th century. The other parts were added in the following centuries. Traces of the Romans and Normans have even been found on the castle island! Now the castle and the accompanying estate are owned by Natuurmonumenten. The lock is normally closed to visitors. You can view it during Heritage Days. You can also take a guided walk around the estate.

This round, stone tower mill from 1864 can be found in Gapinge. The mill was built as a replacement for a wooden mill. The mill operated until 1998.

This watchtower is located in the forestry of Burgh-Haamstede, on the highest dune top in this area. It is probably the highest point in all of Schouwen-Duiveland.
