In the Belgian Kempen you will find everything that makes cycling so interesting and fun: peace, space, lots of natural beauty and a rich cultural history. This route takes you through the Pijnven and the Dommelvallei.
Old chapel
You can warm up during the first kilometers while looking out over fields, fields and streams. Between junctions 248 and 5 you drive over a former railway line. It is nice to pedal along the leafy and quiet path here. Via the Resterheide forest you reach Hechtel, a pleasant village where you can admire some mansions. On the Dorpsstraat you will see the Chapel of Our Lady of Assistance. The prayer house is said to date from the mid-nineteenth century.
Fragrant Pijnven
A little later you cycle for miles through the fragrant coniferous forests of the Pijnven. What fun this is! From junction 245 you drive a bit through the Dommelvallei. This protected landscape consists of fields with hedgerows, alder forests, poplar plantations and hay fields. The Wedelse Mill is located on the river. According to some sources, the mill already existed in the 8th century, which would mean that it is the oldest water mill in the Benelux. You are welcome for a snack and a drink at the cozy and educational Breugelhoeve.
