Terp villages
Before you get on your bike, you can enjoy a terrace at Hotel-Eetcafé Duhoux. The route winds through the wide Frisian landscape. Along the way you will pass through some beautiful old terp villages, such as Beers, Blessum and Menaldum. You can see beautiful Frisian churches here. You will also pass the Arkens, a polder mill from 1835. In Franeker you can take a break at Hotel Restaurant Poort van Franeker, a cozy café where you can have lunch at your leisure.
Planetarium
Leave your bike for a while and walk into Franeker. In this Eleven Cities town with its unique atmosphere, many historic buildings can be admired. Note the bell gable of the Planetarium (1774), where Eise Eisinga built a working model of the solar system in his living room. A little later you drive back into the outside area. You can get a breath of fresh air along the Bolswardertrekvaart from 1638. In the protected village of Mantgum you can still see a few monumental pensioner houses.
