Zutphen is a city with a rich Hanseatic history. At that time, there was plenty of trading in this city on the IJssel in herring, butter, beer, wine and wood. The striking towers, stately merchant houses and other historic buildings in the city take you back to that time. Around Zutphen you cycle through a beautiful green landscape.

Tower city Zutphen
The starting point for this route is located a little outside Almen. At the start of the route you cycle past the Wijngaard de Nieuwe Baankreis. Here the grapes are grown organically. The vineyard is also used as a free range area for the chickens of the associated laying hen company. This way, the space of this vineyard is optimally used. From Almen you cycle further to Eefde and then cycle into the Tower City of Zutphen. In the countryside of Zutphen you will find two beautiful centuries-old country houses: Huis de Voorst and Huis Het Velde. Huis de voorst was built in the seventeenth century and the current Huis Het Velde dates from the sixteenth century.

Hotel Landgoed Ehzerwold

From Zutphen you cycle back to Almen. At the end of the route you can settle down at Hotel Landgoed Ehzerwold. Enjoy culinary delights in the restaurant and then sleep well in one of the comfortable hotel rooms. From here you can also follow route 137089.

House Het Velde
The first mention of the white country house Het Velde dates from 1326. Little remains of that country house. The basis of the current country house was created in the sixteenth century during a renovation. At that time, the east wing and octagonal turret at the front of the mansion were added. Nowadays the house is used by the Police Academy and therefore you can only view it from the outside.

The Huis De Voorst estate was built around 1700 by order of Arnold Joost van Keppel, who had earned a fortune at the court of Stadholder William III. Because of the resemblance to the palace of Willem III, De Voorst was nicknamed 'Het kleine Loo' and the lush gardens gave it the honorary title 'Versailles van de Achterhoek'.
