Bruges is the capital and largest city of West Flanders, but the atmospheric town still feels small. Much of the atmosphere is exuded by the 430-hectare historic center, which has been included on the UNESCO World Heritage List as a medieval city. Cute houses, historic streets and lovely squares are just waiting to be explored. Horses pull covered wagons with tourists, their hooves clattering on the cobblestones and mighty towers on old churches stand majestically in the air.
The first and only place of interest on the route is the Castle of Male. This castle was built in the twelfth century and served as a fortress for the Counts of Flanders. In 1954 the Saint Trudo Abbey was established here, which also renovated and renovated the castle. The castle was sold in 2011 to Hein Deprez, the founder of the company Univeg.
