Description

From your starting point you will soon drive across the centuries-old Slangenburg Estate, which includes the castle of the same name. The almost 600 hectare site traditionally consisted of wet heathland and forests, but was largely reclaimed on behalf of the lord of the castle and general Frederik Johan van Baer (1645-1713). Between 1895 and 1945 the castle was owned by the German Passmann family. After the Second World War, it fell into the hands of the Dutch state as enemy property and the Benedictine St. Willibrord Abbey was built here. The castle is now the abbey's guesthouse. Further on you will see another castle: Wisch Castle, with a very old black walnut of 21 meters high. After a cup of coffee at Eetcafé De Holle Bus you will quickly be back at your starting point.
