Description
After a cup of coffee on the terrace at Poelzicht, you get on your bike. First you set course for the Neerijnen estate and castle. The estate covers more than 200 hectares and dates from the fourteenth century. Then you drink a cup of coffee at Boerderij De Spijken - B&B - Mini Camping - Candle Factory. Further on you will discover Zaltbommel, a fortified city that is more than a thousand years old. The city joined the Hanseatic League in the fifteenth century. Fort Sint Andries is part of the New Dutch Waterline. The pentagonal fort was built during the Siege of Zaltbommel in 1599. The fortress was replaced in 1812. A new fort, named New Fort St. Andries, was built a few hundred meters further to the west.
