Description
Beetsterzwaag is a nice place to discover by bike. You will find a historic atmosphere, partly due to the stately old buildings. In the countryside you drive through vast polders and old forests.
Frisian country houses
For example, you pass the Fockensstate and the Eysingahuis, two country houses originally dating from the seventeenth century. The Harinxmastate is a neoclassical country house from 1843. Further on you pass through the hamlet of Olterterp. Here is the

Old Drait
In Drachten you cycle along the banks of the Oude Drait, a river that used to be called the Dracht. In the polders it is wonderfully quiet to make kilometers. You pass through hamlets such as Smalle Ee and De Veenhoop, which are located on the Wijde Ee lake. Further on are the Boornbergumer Petten. Stop here to enjoy the silence and the beautiful view.
