Cycling through the Frisian Forests and the Fochteloërveen

Friesland has more to offer than just lakes, canals and rivers. In the southeast of this province you drive through the Frisian Forests. Here you will find small-scale landscapes with forests, hedgerows, heathlands, grasslands and winding streams. Just past junction 11 you enter Drenthe. Here you will pass the Zwartendijksterschans from 1593. In Veenhuizen you will see many monumental buildings, and you can also visit the Prison Museum here. The Fochteloërveen is one of the best preserved raised bog areas in the Netherlands. You will experience a wonderfully refreshing silence here. A little later you cycle through the Blue Forest, where you mainly see conifers and some old heather remnants. Via the Duurswouder heath and Landgoed de Slotplaats you drive back to Camping & Cycling/Walking Terrace De Ikeleane. Time for a nice terrace!
