Zwolle is a Hanseatic city, it originated in the Middle Ages on a higher cover sand ridge in the middle of a swampy area. The height differences are still noticeable in the Overijssel capital. You cycle out of the city along the Zwarte Water river. Further on you look out over a vortex on the river. On the other side you see the Westerveldse Bos, a young nature reserve. From the dike you have a beautiful view of the river and the floodplains. Then you cross the IJssel via a bridge. You drive to the Vecht via the nice Hanseatic town of Hattem and a ferry. Here you see the Leemcule, a chic house from the nineteenth century, and the Rutenberg, a country house from 1828. Get off nearby at Restaurant De Witte Gans!
