Zwolle is a Hanseatic city, it originated in the Middle Ages on a higher cover sand ridge in the middle of a swampy area. The height differences are still noticeable in the Overijssel capital. You cycle out of the city along the river Zwarte Water. Further on you look out over a pond on the river. On the other side you see the Westerveldse Bos, a young nature reserve. From the dike you have a beautiful view of the river and the floodplains. Then you cross the IJssel via a bridge. Via the nice Hanseatic town of Hattem and a ferry you drive to the Vecht. Here you see the Leemcule, a chic residential house from the nineteenth century, and the Rutenberg, a country house from 1828. Get off nearby at Herberg De Witte Gans!
