The river De Linge meanders like a ribbon through the landscape of Gelderland. There are beautiful villages on the water, such as Beesd. Further on, you will find Landgoed Mariënwaerdt with its many monumental buildings and natural beauty. At Farm Shop Lagerweij you can enjoy a drink on a terrace before cycling to Buren. You imagine yourself a few centuries back in time, so many beautiful monuments are still here. At De Pannekoekenbakker Buren you can enjoy a delicious meal before heading back to the banks of the Linge. You will cycle through Buurmalsen and Geldermalsen, and further on you will pass windmill De Vlinder from 1913. A little later you will pass an old weapon site on the dike and Fort Asperen and Werk on the Spoordijk. The route ends at Camping BetuweStrand Recreation.

Farm shop Lagerweij is a nice stop off during your bike ride through the Betuwe. Here you can drink a cup of tea or coffee with homemade cake. When the weather is nice, you can sit on the terrace, otherwise you can take a seat inside in the coffee corner. The farm shop sells its own free-range eggs and gift items. You will also find a wide range of fresh regional products, including a large number with the Betuws Best regional brand. Behind the glass you can see how the chickens scratch around. The current mill De Vrijheid was probably built in the 18th century and restored in 1968. Before that, there was a mill on this site since the 14th century.

Huis Buren

For centuries one of the largest Dutch castles stood on the Plantsoen: Huis Buren. In this castle William of Orange married Anna van Buren-van Egmond in 1551. The castle was demolished in the years after 1804. Stones and other materials were sold to build and restore houses in the region.

The most famous windmill type in the Netherlands. Windmills were not only used to produce flour from cereals, but also for draining polder areas. Natural energy. The most famous windmills can be found in Kinderdijk, really set up as a polder model. A must see!

Landgoed Noordenhoek is located in a meander of the Linge. Archaeological research has shown that the history of this estate dates back to the 12th century. Once there was a castle here, but the current country house that you find here dates from 1898.

Molen De Vlinder

De Vlinder is a windmill that was built along the Linge in 1913. In 1931 the mill was repaired after a major fire. The mill is still used to grind grain.

Get on your bike, put on your walking shoes and visit KunstFort Asperen, a monumental place where art and culture are displayed in a beautiful landscape of the New Dutch Waterline. In our Tavern - on a picturesque part of the walls - you can enjoy coffee and cake, lunch or drinks. The fort is open from mid-April to September, the Taveerne all year round, opening times can be found on the website www.kunstfortasperen.nl.

Werk op de Spoordijk

The New Dutch Water Line had to protect Holland against external attacks. The line had some vulnerabilities. One of those weak links was the Elst-Dordrecht railway line. In order to defend this point, a small fort was built in Acquoy near the Devendijk. Very special is the still working crane bridge.
