The Schoonhoven Recreation Area is located near Hollandscheveld, the starting point of this route. In the middle of the green forests you will find two swimming lakes with a large sandy beach and green sunbathing areas. From there the route heads north. Junction 83 is located in the middle of the forests of Boswachterij Gees. Because the forests on the east side are slightly higher than the surrounding grassland, you have a beautiful view. The deciduous forest in the forestry was created in the 1930s. To make the area wetter, ditches are now being filled in and dams are being constructed and the water is being transported out of the area via a longer route. In a wetter area, much of the original flora and fauna gets a chance again. Adders live in the moist heath vegetation and grass snakes near the water of the fens. You can also find foxes, badgers, pine martens, hawks, buzzards and honey buzzards in the Gees forestry. At bicycle junction 81 you cycle along the Klinkenberg, or Motte Geeserveld. The Klinkenberg is the remains of a motte-and-bailey castle. It consisted of a main castle and an outer castle and was surrounded by a figure-eight moat. During archaeological research in 2002, a wooden pole was dated to 1239. The Klinkenberg is a protected monument. Pancake farm De Ganzenhoeve is located on the beautiful De Groote Scheere estate, between Gramsbergen and Coevorden. It is the ideal place to step off the pedals and stretch your legs with a drink and something tasty. In the old farmhouse with a rural appearance, the pancakes are prepared traditionally, with flour from the Windlust flour mill. A treat for young and old. The Anermolen in Ane dates from 1864. It is an octagonal belt mill, covered with reeds. In the mid-20th century the mill fell into disrepair and was completely restored in 1981. Grain is still milled on a voluntary basis, and the mill can be visited on Wednesdays and Saturdays from 1:00 PM to 4:30 PM. The last part of the route leads through the fields back to Schoonhoven Recreation Area, your point of departure.

De Anermolen

The Anermolen was built in Ane in 1864 as a flour mill. It is a belt mill with a belt of 3.50 meters high, which farmers could easily drive under with their carts to unload corn and load flour. The mill was built as a replacement for a mill that was in a bad condition. The mill has had several owners over the centuries, but the mill was not always well cared for. In 1934 one of the rods of the mill broke off and a little later the mill was dismantled. In 1978 the municipality of Gramsbergen bought the mill to ensure that the only remaining mill in the municipality was preserved. In 1981 a large-scale restoration took place in that context. In 2002 the mill was given new grinding stones, which even makes it possible to grind animal feed again. Grain is also ground in this mill on a voluntary basis.
