Cycling through the floodplains of the Lower Betuwe

First you cross the Nederrijn with a ferry . On the other side you cycle through a mosaic of grassy fields, ditches and of course the many orchards for which the Betuwe is known. You pass through Kesteren and IJzendoorn, in Echteld you can take a look at Wijenburg Castle. Once an important castle in the Duchy of Guelders, the building was saved from demolition in the early twentieth century and restored to its former glory. You drive on the leafy road along the Amsterdam-Rhine Canal to Rijswijk. On the edge of Maurik you pass De Beijenkorf, a flour mill from 1873. In Ingen there is another flour mill: Op Hoop van Beter from 1893.
