Peace, the vastness of the Dwingelderveld and Saxon farms: these are the wonderful ingredients of this beautiful tour through the vibrant heart of Drenthe.
Esdorpen
The route begins in the woods on the edge of Dwingelderveld National Park. You'll soon enter the esdorp village of Beilen. Here you'll pass, among other things, the Stefanuskerk (St. Stephen's Church), a beautiful Gothic church building from the fourteenth century. Hijken is also a esdorp village. The many old farms here evoke the atmosphere of times gone by.
The Dwingelderveld
Further on, you'll cycle along the cycle path into the fresh-smelling forests of Dwingelderveld National Park. Take a break on the heathland and experience for yourself how wonderful it is to be in one of the quietest places in the Netherlands. Although the silence might be briefly interrupted by the flock of Ruiner sheep... Kraloo and its surroundings enjoy a protected village landscape, showing you how beautiful Drenthe used to be.
Below you will find various suggestions for breaks that you can visit during your route. These are divided into different categories, making it easy for you to choose.
