Jump on your bike and experience the tranquility around Ter Apel. You cycle through the former peat colonial area on the border with Germany. You will also pass through the monastery forests.
Peat colony
It is wonderful to make miles in the wide peat polders. You will experience a refreshing tranquility in this sparsely populated border area. You briefly cross the border with Germany, passing through Rütenbrock. You can admire the Saint Maximilian church from 1870 here.
Monastery Ter Apel
Back at Ter Apel you will pass the famous medieval Crosier Monastery from 1465, a building that belongs to the Top 100 of Dutch UNESCO monuments. Today the monastery is a museum for monastic and church history and religious art. Around the monastery you cycle through forests that have been planted since around 800! There are many large, imposing old oaks and beeches. That is enjoying nature.
