Hoogkarspel, Wevershoof and Medemblik

Strips of green meadows, glass greenhouses and a sea of colorful fields full of fragrant flowers are visible between Hoogkarspel, Wervershoof and Medemblik. Whatever season you visit: crocuses, tulips, daffodils, hyacinths, and gladiolus make beautiful fields of color, but dahlias, carnations and asters also bloom well in their season. The cycling tour begins in picturesque Enkhuizen, with its historic center intersected by canals and surrounded by an old rampart. Enkhuizen is known as one of the nicest towns to visit. You cycle to Medemblik, where you can admire the castle of Radboud. According to a legend from 1517, a castle already stood here in the seventh century, although the remains of this castle have never been found. At the end of the thirteenth century, a strong fortress was built here, commissioned by Count Floris V of Holland. He had this castle built as part of a series of fortresses to keep the West Frisians in check. Nowadays many activities are organized on and around the castle.
