Description

Your cycling route starts at Poelzicht, where you enjoy a cup of coffee. Via Waardenburg you cycle towards the Waal. Along the way you will pass several old mills that are worth seeing: De Bouwing mill from 1848, De Bol mill from 1867 and Waardenburg mill from the eighteenth century. Just outside Rossum you will find Fort Sint Andries, a former military fort of the New Dutch Waterline. It was built during the Siege of Zaltbommel in 1599, commissioned by Francesco de Mendoza. The pentagonal fort gave the defenders at this location a good view over the river area. In 1812 the fort was replaced by a new fort built a few hundred meters to the west.
