Description

The starting point of the route is in Zaltbommel. This fortified city is more than 1000 years old and you will find a church tower without a spire and the Zaltbommel city castle in the monumental city center. From here you cycle through the Bommelerwaard towards Rossum. Along the way you can admire the wet landscape full of forests, flowery grasslands, floodplains rich in birds, dikes and pumping stations. Just outside Rossum you will pass Fort Sint Andries, which was built in a strategic location on the water. In 1812, this fort replaced the old fort that still dates from the time of the Siege of Zaltbommel. After a crossing with a ferry you cycle past Museumgemaal Carners at Gewande, an information center and museum. On the way back you can take a break at Café restaurant Treurenburg.
