Your route starts at Restaurant Zalencentrum In de Tonne. This route takes you to the leafy forests and rolling hills between Hellendoorn and Heeten. You cycle along the Hellendoornse berg, the Koningsbelt and the Haarlerberg, which are part of the Sallandse Heuvelrug. This landscape was created long ago by sliding ice, melting water and drifting sand. On the west side of this area you will discover a number of wet fens, where vulnerable animals such as the great crested newt and moor frog live. Between cycle junctions 53 and 57, you cycle past the Rijkswerkkamp Twilhaar monument, in memory of the dozens of men who were deported from this former labor camp to concentration camp Westerbork.
