Description

Stone city walls were built in the mid-fourteenth century. There were a total of 23 towers and seven gates, creating a real city wall. You cross the river and cycle to Loevestein Castle, now a museum. When you have passed the castle and Fort Loevestein, you will come across the Battery under Brakel. This fort was built in 1879-1884 and closed off the Waal, the floodplains and the southern Waal dike. By't Veer is a beautiful spot on the water to relax while enjoying a snack and a drink. At Waardenburg you cross the Waal again. At Haaften you will find the De Blauwe Reiger mill on the waterfront, a corn mill from 1856. Fort Vuren is the last sight on the route.
