On April 10, 2010, the Language Route was opened in Schiermonnikoog. Poems in the original dialect of Schiermonnikoog can be found in nine places across the island. The poems were written by three poets from Schiermonnikoog, the former director of the pilotage service in Rotterdam Lammert Wiersma (1881-1980), the teacher and poet Pita Grilk (1905-1980) and the captain Jacob Fenenga (1888-1972). The language route takes you past the nine stones with the Eilander poems. The translation of the poems is for sale at the Tourist Office or at the Visitor Centre. The 9 locations are: Bus stop Oosterreeweg, Reeweg (at the blue poles), Bank van Banck, Melle Grietjespad (at the bench and bridge), Westerduinenpad, At the lighthouse, Einde Badweg (bench at the beach crossing); Vredenhof, Torenstreek/Langestreek (in the park)
