Description

A fairly unknown green gem on the border: the Schinveld forests. In some places seepage water comes to the surface through two thick impermeable clay layers in the soil. Nature provides protection for drinking water sources and helps to keep the groundwater as clean as possible.

Hidden in the Schinveld forests is WML\\\'s pumping station Schinveld. The forest gradually changes into the moist grasslands along the Rode Beek. WML pumps 4 billion liters of water here annually, accounting for about 5% of Limburg's drinking water supply.

This walking route takes you past the various water extraction wells and the pumping station where the groundwater is purified by means of, among other things, marble filtration.

Enjoy this walking morning. So walk responsibly. That means:

  • stay on roads and trails;
  • do not damage plants;
  • take garbage with you;
  • keep the dog on a leash and clean up the poop.
