Description

With 19 sites and events listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a property listed as a UNESCO Memory of the World, the province of Hainaut holds a national record.

You will start your journey at the foot of the Strépy-Thieu cable car, the largest in Europe! This exceptional work is open to the public and you will discover a lot during the visit. Fancy a boat trip? Then go on board and experience the ancient ship lifts on board a barge.

A few hundred meters further on you will arrive at the historic Canal du Center (Center Canal) and its idyllic banks. Go downstream and admire the 4 hydraulic lifts, the only ones in the world that are still in their original state!
Be sure to visit the Immigration Interpretation Center or also known as the old Italian canteen. The Italian canteen ensured that the canal was connected to industrial activities in the region.
