Groote Heide and Meeuwven from Stratum

After a cup of coffee at Het Cruydenhuisch in Stratum, put on your walking shoes. You can walk from here to the vast Groote Heide. You can enjoy the views and natural beauty here. The contours of fens that were there can still be seen on the cover sand ridge, smaller fens are still maintained. Afterwards you will discover the woods around the Meeuwven. Although the name suggests otherwise, it has nothing to do with seagulls. It used to be called Nieuwven, but it was corrupted into Meeuwven by a mapmaker's mistake in the Napoleonic era. The protected bog myrtle grows on the banks, which used to be used as a flavoring agent in beer.
