Tour of the Kempen-Broek and Maarheeze Border Park

Your route starts at Restaurant-brasserie De Coockpit. South of Weert you will come across several farms near Altweerterheide that were built here in the twentieth century. The area was therefore only developed relatively late. The village of Altweerterheide is still not large. In the border area you cycle through the GrensPark Kempen-Broek, past the remains of what was once a gigantic marsh. Wet grasslands and open marsh zones alternate with farmland. In many places nature is allowed to take its course and the area becomes overgrown. In places you will find small remnants of heathland. You will also cycle through the Weerterbos with its red deer and the Weerter- and Budelbergen. Here you can take a short trip to a burial ground from the Bronze Age, near the former railway.
