Tour of GrensPark Kempen-Broek and Maarheeze

Your route starts at Restaurant-brasserie De Coockpit. South of Weert you will pass some farms at Altweerterheide that were built here in the twentieth century. The area was therefore only developed quite late. The village of Altweerterheide is still not large. In the border area you cycle through the Kempen-Broek GrensPark, past remains of what was once a gigantic stream swamp. Wet grasslands and open swamp zones alternate with farmland. In many places, nature is allowed to take its course and the area is expanding. Locally you can find small heather stems. You also cycle through the Weerterbos with its red deer and the Weerter and Budelbergen. Here you can take a trip to a cemetery from the Bronze Age, near the former railway line.
