Tour of Chaam and Chaamse Bossen

Then you walk straight through Chaam and the hamlets of Dassemus and Kalishoek in the direction of the Chaamse Bossen. The area you walk through once consisted of sand drifts, wet heathland and fens. Between 1900 and 1934, much of the heathland was planted with Scots pine and wet areas were converted into grassland. At the beginning of the twenty-first century, many old agricultural areas were restored to their former state, making the area wetter again. The original fens were also excavated again, creating new swamp areas. Due to these developments, you can now find more animals and plants in the Chaamse Bossen, including all kinds of birds and salamanders.
