Description

The first part of this route takes you through De Maasduinen National Park. You see a vast moorland and forests. You may come across a herd of sheep or Galloway cattle along the way. Via the nice German town of Goch you cycle to Kalbeck Castle. The first written mention of dates from 1326, when Count Reinald II van Guelders lent the house to Dirk Loef III van Kleef. In 1614 it fell into Prussian hands. The castle is currently privately owned. The fifteenth-century Sankt Cyriakus is a fine example of late Gothic architecture in the Lower Rhine region. The small wooden church already existed here in the 9th century, as part of the medieval farm complex'Villa Geizefurt\\\' in today's Kalbeck.
