The name suggests otherwise, but this was a relatively small manor. In the 17th century, Grotenhuis was nicknamed 'The Haunted House'. Catholic worship services were then held in the house and it was said that people around the house were haunted with white sheets over them to disrupt the mass. The current Grotenhuis farm is built on the foundations of the old manor.
