Amerongse Bos and Lonely Oak Walking Route

This route takes you through the Amerongse Bos, one of the oldest forests on the Utrechtse Heuvelrug. This area originally belonged to the hunting grounds of the lords of Amerongen Castle. Now, you can unwind wonderfully here. You do have to tackle a short climb every now and then, but you are rewarded with plenty of beauty, such as silence and stately avenues where large beech trees grow. About halfway through, you pass through a star-shaped forest laid out around 1790 in the form of a wagon wheel. In the center of it stands the Lonely Oak, which was presumably planted in 1792. The route ends at Camping 't Eind.
