The dunes, Alkmaar and the Uitgeestermeer

Mills and forts, dunes, forests and water: there is plenty to experience on this route. First you drive to Egmond aan den Hoef. Here you can get off to view the idyllic surroundings of Egmond Castle. In Bergen you cycle past villas and the beautiful ruined church from 1597. In the center of Alkmaar you will discover even more of the rich Dutch cultural history. In Heiloo you will pass the White Church, whose origins date back to the eleventh century. Then you drive along the Alkmaarder and Uitgeestermeer to Uitgeest. Finally, you cycle through the North Holland Dune Reserve. Due to the enormous variety of plant species, this elongated nature reserve is a rarity in Europe. After getting off you can visit the Egmond Abbey shop.
