Tour of the Defense Line of Amsterdam from Castricum

Your cycling route starts at Bike Totaal Kruijswijk Tweewielers. From here you can explore part of the 135 kilometer long defense line on the Amstel, around our capital: the Defense Line of Amsterdam. The position is still active as a service; the menacing effect it emanated was sufficient to prevent hostilities. In 1914, the Defense Line of Amsterdam, together with the New Dutch Waterline, prompted the Germans not to invade the Netherlands. The entire water line, on which a total of 45 forts were built and which was constructed from 1880 to 1920, is on the UNESCO World Heritage List. During the Second World War, Fort Veldhuis was used by the Germans as part of their major defenses along the west coast. Today, an air war museum is located here.
