Tour of Vlissingen and Zoutelande from Middelburg

After a cup of coffee at Van der Valk Hotel Middelburg you get on your bike. Straight through Vlissingen you quickly cycle via the boulevard into the Nollebos, a nature reserve that was created in the 1930s on the site of the former Fort De Nolle. You then drive many kilometers through a series of deciduous forests, meadows and villages such as Dishoek and the pleasant Zoutelande. Further on you pass't Welvaaren, a flour mill from 1801. Just outside Grijpskerke you drive past't Munnikenhof, a former country estate from the thirteenth century. In the seventeenth century, Jacob Cats acquired the castle and wrote most of his poems here. You cycle back along the Inner Harbor of Middelburg: the second most important city in the Netherlands at the time of the VOC.
